Skill Development

Program Saksham

The program Saksham was started with 25 women, in June 2016, at Auto Pin Colony Sec-24, Faridabad. As on February 2020, a total of 450 women have been successfully trained in stitching, cutting, tailoring and embroidery. The program today has 3 more centres at different locations in Faridabad.

Objective:

The aim of this program is to provide underprivileged girls with means to add to their family income or self-sustain. Skills like cutting, tailoring, stitching and embroidery are taught. This skill set can help them secure a job at a boutique, export house or even start their own tailoring shop individually or collectively. Other than the basic skills, the women are also taught to make fancy bags, purses and laptop bags that are sold at Diwali melas and on other occasions

Post training, the foundation offers a completion certificate that provides credibility to their skills. The trainees are taken on field visits to gain exposure on various aspects of a tailoring unit such as sampling and quality control. They are also educated on how to set up shops with the help of an interest free loan from the government or from self-help groups.
